Kebbi First Lady Inaugurates Working Group on Gender Based Violence .

The wife of the Kebbi state governor, Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris has inaugurated the State’s Technical Working Group on Gender Based Violence, to combat the pervasive issue of gender-based violence in the state.

In her address at the inauguration ceremony in Birnin Kebbi, Hajiya Zainab Nasare emphasized the need for collective action to eradicate all forms of gender-based violence. She called on Civil Society Organizations, the Media, and other stakeholders to work together to achieve positive results in the fight against this societal menace

She highlighted that gender-based violence extends beyond just rape and impacts the overall wellbeing of women. She commended the efforts of the TWG members in raising public awareness about gender-based violence and ensuring the prosecution of offenders.

Mallam Nasir Idris, the Secretary of the TWG, revealed that fifty rapists have been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by Special Courts established to handle rape cases in the state between January and May of this year. He attributed this success to the unwavering support of first lady Zainab Nasare.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Halima Hassan Kamba, will serve as the Vice Chairperson of the TWG, alongside with eleven other members who will work towards eliminating gender-based violence in Kebbi State. With the dedication and commitment of all stakeholders, the fight against gender-based violence in Kebbi State is expected to yield positive results.
