KEDCO, Labour Unions Suspend Industrial Action After Agreement on Workers’ Benefits

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) and labour unions have suspended the ongoing industrial action following agreements reached after negotiations involving key stakeholders. In a statement issued on Friday, KEDCO management said the resolution followed engagements with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), the Bureau of Public Enterprises, Future Energies Africa—KEDCO’s core investor—and the Kano State Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy.

The company said discussions focused on inherited issues relating to unpaid pensions, employee emoluments, and benefits after the restructuring that brought in new investors.

According to KEDCO, part of the agreement includes the payment of outstanding arrears totaling ₦170 million, covering 13th-month salary arrears of ₦150 million and appraisal bonuses of ₦20 million from previous years. The company also committed to paying the 2025 13th-month salary arrears of ₦174 million during the February 2026 salary cycle.

The statement added that an expanded dialogue framework has been agreed upon, with plans for further meetings involving the NLC, electricity labour unions, and the KEDCO board to address remaining issues.

Based on the agreements, the industrial action has been suspended with immediate effect, with all parties committing to a no-victimisation clause for workers.

KEDCO confirmed that normal operations have resumed across its service areas and assured customers of improved service delivery and continued engagement to prevent future disruptions.
