KIDNAPPERS KILL UNION BANK MANAGER IN CALABAR

By Joseph ETTA in Calabar

An Assistant Manager with Union Bank, Calabar branch, Evan Ibeto has been killed by suspected kidnappers.

according to sources, the Anambra born manager was kidnapped while returning from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State to Calabar where He attended a Seminar. He was kidnapped at 8 miles, an entry point to Calabar main town and city and was driven to Atimbo Road, where he was pulled out of the car and macheted on the arms joint and knee joints which resulted to his bleeding to death.

The body has been deposited at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar by men of the Anti-Cultist who found the body around the Atimbo swarm.

Daybreak learnt from the Anti-Cult and Kidnapping unit, Calabar, that the incidence was strange because kidnappers don’t use match and axe to kill their victims. They don’t kill suddenly – they keep their prey and ask for ransom.

According to Dambata, the officer-in-charge of the case, “we are suspecting a foul play or office politics – that is why we have written to the management of Union bank to come and write officially to us or make a statement to us.”

Ibeto hailed from Anambra State and comes from the popular Ibeto family. When Daybreak visited his home at the satellite town, the wife who is heavenly pregnant with their first child was weeping uncontrollably and declined comment.
