Kogi @ 29: Shun Differences For Speedy Devt – Speaker

By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The Speaker Kogi House of Assembly, Prince Matthew Kolawole on Thursday called on the people of the state to shun tribal, religious and political sentiments
in the interest of speedy development of the state.

Prince Kolawole made the call in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Femi Olugbemi and made available to newsmen to mark the 29th Anniversary of the creation of the state on Thursday in Lokoja.

He said there was need to actualize the dreams of the initiators of the Kogi project adding that generations yet unborn would continue to be grateful to the founding fathers for canvassing for a state called Kogi.

“It is now time for all and sundry to work together for the overall interest of the state irrespective of their tribe, religion and political affiliations, to actualize the dreams of the initiators of the Kogi project”, he said.

The Speaker pointed out that the state had enormous potentials to be one of the most viable states in the country if the untapped huge natural and material resources in the state were harnessed.

He commended the New Direction administration of Governor Yahaya Bello for its foresight and the desire to develop the state through deliberate policies and programmes that aimed at enhancing overall development of the state.

Kolawole commended efforts of the administration to right the wrongs of the past and noted that the legislative arm under the current dispensation had enjoyed cordial working relationship with other Arms of Government.

This, according to him, created the enabling environment for the House to pass a number of bills including the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara; Kogi State, Referral Hospital, Okene; Magistrate Court and Education laws.

The Speaker expressed delight that in spite of the effects of Covid-19 pandemic, the 7th Assembly had continued to perform its legislative and oversight functions promptly for the progress and good governance in the state.
