Kogi Poly Rector Congratulates Gov. Ododo on Two Years in Office, Hails Education Reforms

By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman, has congratulated Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on the occasion of his second anniversary in office, describing the administration’s achievements so far as remarkable and impactful.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Governing Council, Academic Board, Management and staff of the institution, Prof. Usman commended the governor for his commitment to the growth and stability of the polytechnic and the broader education sector in the state.

According to the rector, the Ododo administration has recorded notable milestones within two years, particularly in the area of infrastructure and security. These include the historic fencing of the Itakpe Campus to enhance safety, the provision of a transformer to improve electricity supply at the Itakpe Campus, and the installation of solar-powered street lights on the Lokoja Campus to boost illumination. He also highlighted the deployment of CCTV cameras across both the Lokoja and Itakpe campuses to strengthen security operations.

Prof. Usman further noted that under the governor’s leadership, the polytechnic successfully secured accreditation for 18 academic programmes and introduced eight new ones, a move he said has promoted quality assurance and expanded access to polytechnic education in the state.

The rector also praised the administration for staff and student-focused welfare policies, including the implementation of the national minimum wage with an accompanying tax holiday, full implementation of the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme for staff and students, payment of leave bonuses, and the consistent prompt payment of salaries.

Other achievements listed in the statement include the payment of bursary allowances to students of Kogi State origin, which, according to the rector, has helped ease the financial burden on students and their families.

“We wish His Excellency more resounding years ahead to continue to render impactful and purpose-driven leadership for the good people of Kogi State,” Prof. Usman said.

Governor Ododo was sworn in as the governor of Kogi State in January 2024 and has since marked two years in office with a series of sectoral reforms and development initiatives across the state.
