The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has highlighted the importance of prioritizing natural gas production and supply for driving economic growth and industrial development in Nigeria.
Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC, Mele Kyari, emphasized the critical role natural gas plays in supporting economic expansion and industrial activities during the public presentation of the book “The Rise of Gas: From Gaslink to the Decade of Gas,” authored by Engr. Charles A. Osezua.
Kyari, represented by NNPC Ltd’s head of Relationship and Stakeholder Management, Oluwakemi Olumuyiwa, noted the global acceptance of natural gas as a vital energy source. He pointed out that Nigeria’s significant gas reserves, exceeding 200 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) and potentially reaching 600 Tcf, offer opportunities for sustainable development, energy security, and job creation.
The book aligns with the federal government’s “Decade of Gas” initiative, which aims to maximize Nigeria’s abundant gas resources for both domestic use and international export. Kyari mentioned NNPC Ltd’s key role in advancing the “Decade of Gas” agenda through strategic investments in essential gas infrastructure, such as pipelines and processing facilities.
Author Engr. Charles Osezua expressed gratitude for NNPC Ltd’s support during the book launch, stating that the company’s involvement reflects its dedication to knowledge sharing and innovation in the gas industry.
Additionally, Engr. Afolabi Oladele, chairman of the Impact Investors Foundation and former group executive director of NNPC, praised the book for its comprehensive insights into the gas value chain, which will prove valuable to policymakers amid the global energy transition.
