Lack Of Full Autonomy Is A Threat To Local Councils In Nigeria-Ex-lawmaker.

A former legislator during the third republic in kano Alhaji Ahmed Badume said that there is no physical development is being seen at all the 774 local governments councils since their full autonomy is denied by the states governors which is a great setback to national progress.

He made the disclosure in a chat with Daybreak news in kano, adding that local councils are in a critical condition where all activities relates to the local administration is not going well despite that local governments remained the hope of the masses especially those who cannot directly see their governors and other elected leaders a part from the local councils chairmen.

“I am appealing to the federal government under our dynamic president Muhammadu Buhari to restore the lost glory of the local governments in order to ensure that the electorates are benefiting with many projects and other infrastructure as seen previously”. He stressed.

Alhaji Ahmed Basume announces that lack of full autonomy to the local councils has certainly retarded their efforts towards the execution of developmental projects especially at present when the population is increasing and states governments deeming it difficult to cover everywhere.

Daybreak news visited some local governments headquarters where all the places remain empty because the councils chairmen were absent for quite long time without being on seat due to financial issue especially when the peoples demands is increasing.

A junior staff with Shanono local government council who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that ” Sincerely speaking, we took long time without seeing our council chairman simply because there is nothing in the coppers of the local council, see how the place turns to animals and rats resting place.
