Late Umar Shinkafi family donates N10m to Federal University Gusau

The family of Late Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi, on Wednesday, announced a donation of N10 million to the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara.

Late Shinkafi was former Head, National Security Organization (NSO).

Hajiya Fatima Shinkafi, announced the donation in a statement released to newsmen by her media aide, Malam Bashir Kabir-Ahmad in Gusau.

She said the donation was part of the family’s contribution to the development of education in Zamfara.

Late Umaru Shinkafi was honoured by the University during it’s maiden convocation held on Saturday, Jan. 25.

Fatima Shinkafi, Executive Secretary and Head of Secretariat of the Solid Minerals Development Fund, said the donation, in memory of their late father, was to support the university in providing additional basic needs for students and other services in the institution.

“We will continue to remain committed and resolute towards assisting the University particularly on girl-child educational support when necessary.

“We commend the management of the school for the concern shown to our late father and entire Marafan Sokoto family, the honour has made the family proud.

“We really appreciate and acknowledge the honour bestowed on our Late father and we are going to reciprocate the gesture to this noble institution for it’s sustainable educational development,” she said.

Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi, who died in July, 2016 was born in 1937 at shinkafi town, in Zamfara.

He joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1959, after passing through the Police College in Kaduna.

He graduated from the University of Lagos in 1973 and later attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos.

He contested for the presidential ticket of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) in 1992.

Shinkafi served as Federal Commissioner of Internal Affairs in 1975 and later headed the National Security Organization in 1979.(NAN)
