Ikowak said that the October 31 LG polls date remained sacrosanct, adding that proper arrangements have been put in place ahead of the exercise.

The chairman told newsmen yesterday in Uyo that the commission has already commenced training for Electoral Officers and adhoc staff in preparation for the polls.

“We are ready for the election on October 31, that is why  you see us working day and night to ensure the success of the election.” He said.

On the alleged disqualification of chairmanship candidates of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), he said the Commission has no power to disqualify any candidate of a party adding that names submitted by political parties  to the Commission with due process would participate in the election.

“in the case of NRM, the candidates from Esit Eket and Ukanafun upon purchase of forms, did not submit names of their Vice Chairmanship candidates which was a requirement in Forms 001 and 002.

“State Chairman of NRM, Chris Ben smuggled in  names of the Chairmanship candidates for those areas on the day of the screening which automatically  disqualified his candidates for the criminal act,” describing protest NRM members as baseless and meaningless.
