MAKE KIDNAPPING, CULTISM A CAPITAL OFFENCE – POLICE BOSS

By Joseph ETTA in Calabar

A former police top notch in Cross River State, Effiong E. Effiong has canvassed for the state House of Assembly to make law that will classified Kidnapping, Cultism a capital offence in the state.

He reinterated the fact that this will definitely reduce the menace of kidnapping and cultism in our higher institutions.

Effiong, a retired Assistant Commissioner of police in his hey days in the force was known as Effiong the “Shooter” because he terrorize armed robbers and will always chased them to their hole.

In a parley with Daybreak, he observed that the government of the day has made Cross River State a lawless society by not giving the police an enabling atmosphere to work and also their interest in cult activities.  “can you imagined if you arrest the cult boys today, a call will come from above asking the police to release them.

But if there was a law or gazette making these offences a capital offence, it will embolden the police to take them to court immediately and they will be sentence to death.

This will serve as deterrence to others looking at our neighbouring state, Akwa Ibom, they did it and now the incidence of kidnapping and cultism has drastically reduced.”

When asked where the student and cult boys get the sophisticated arms from and where do they get money from to buy such sophisticated arms/guns, the retired ASP said that, the politicians release arms to these boys as thugs to help them win election but when they win the election, they will not retrieve the arms from them.

“Many notable politicians in the state sponsored these boys and support them financially”.

In a related development, the wife of the Assemblies of God pastor, Theodore Effiong, Pst. (Mrs.) Mary Theodore Effiong kidnapped 10days ago in their Calabar home is still being held hostage by the kidnappers.

When Daybreak contacted the Anti-Cultism and Kidnappery unit at Cultural Center Complex Calabar, the detective boss who pleaded for anonymity said, they cannot do anything because the kidnappers have refused to call – “it is only when they called that we can move.”

Their telephone call will give us a lead to track their location.
