Makinde: Fuel Price Hike Decision Will Be People-Centric

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has assured that any decision his administration takes regarding the recent fuel price hike will prioritize the well-being of the people. He also emphasized that the state’s economic interests will be carefully considered.

In his September 2024 newsletter titled “The Business of Governance” (Issue 97), Makinde expressed that he is ready to resume duties on Monday, September 12, 2024, following a four-week vacation that ends on Friday, May 6. He acknowledged the pressing need for decisions on fuel prices and promised that the choices made would be in the best interest of both the citizens and the Oyo State economy.

“I know there are important decisions to be made, especially regarding the recent fuel price increase. Rest assured, our actions will reflect the best interests of our people and our economy,” Makinde said.

The governor also praised Acting Governor Barr. Bayo Lawal for effectively steering the state’s affairs during his absence. “I extend my gratitude to our acting governor, His Excellency Barrister Bayo Lawal, for maintaining the flow of governance. I also appreciate those who sent prayers in response to my previous emails. I’m returning refreshed and ready to continue serving,” Makinde added.

He hinted at upcoming projects in agribusiness and tourism, scheduled for flag-off and commissioning in October, but chose to keep the specifics under wraps for now. “I am eager to unveil a few projects in October that I believe we’ll all be proud of,” he teased.

Governor Makinde also mentioned a book he’s currently reading, *The Situation Room—The Inside Story of Presidents in Crisis* by George Stephanopoulos, promising to share his reflections in the coming weeks.

Ending on a hopeful note, he said, “I always like to close my messages on a positive note. May we never lose real hope.”
