Man Apprehended Attempting to Break into Lagos Bank

By Daniel Edu

In a swift response to a distress call, the Lagos State Police arrested a 43-year-old man, identified as Azeez Isa, who was attempting to rob a new generation bank located opposite the Maplewood Estate in the Oko Oba area of Lagos State. The incident occurred during the early hours of a Sunday.

According to an anonymous police source, Isa was apprehended while in possession of a sledgehammer, which he had been using to strike the security door of the bank in an attempt to gain unlawful access.

The source explained, “The security personnel stationed at the bank became alerted upon hearing the noise of an individual repeatedly striking an object in the early morning hours. They decided to investigate and discovered a man using a sledgehammer to forcefully breach the bank’s security door. The suspect persisted in his efforts, seemingly oblivious to the fact that the noise he was making could draw the attention of people nearby.”

Initially, the security guards were apprehensive, not knowing whether the suspect had accomplices during the attempted robbery.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, stating, “We received the distress call at approximately 4:20 am, and our patrol team responded promptly. The suspect was apprehended while still in the process of attempting to breach the bank’s security door. He is currently in police custody and is undergoing interrogation.”

The arrest of Azeez Isa serves as a testament to the vigilance of the bank’s security personnel and the rapid response of the Lagos State Police, effectively thwarting a potential bank robbery in progress.
