Man remanded in prison over alleged armed robbery

A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of a 25-year-old man, Yunusa Baba, docked for alleged armed robbery.

The defendant is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and robbery.

The magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, who gave the order, said the defendant should remain in prison, pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the plea of the accused was not taken.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the accused committed the offences with one other now at large on Jan. 3, along Kawo Road, Kaduna.

According to him, the accused, armed with a locally made pistol, dispossessed the complainant, Maryam Sanusi, of her handbag containing some valuables.

The offences contravened the provisions of Sections 286 and 299 of the Penal Code.

The case was adjourned until Feb. 4 for advice from the DPP.
