Memory Lane: Controversy Over Alleged Eviction of Retired Justice Bashir Sambo Resurfaces

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

A past controversy involving former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has resurfaced, drawing renewed attention to an alleged eviction of a retired judge, Justice Bashir Sambo, from a property he claimed to have legally acquired.

According to archived reports by Daily Trust, the incident involved the removal of Justice Sambo from his residence by security operatives, reportedly acting on directives from the FCT administration at the time.

In the report by journalist Shehu Abubakar, Justice Sambo was said to have been evicted from the house, which he maintained he had fully paid for following its allocation to him after retirement.

However, officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) reportedly disputed the ownership, stating that the property had been allocated in error. The report indicated that the dispute escalated despite existing court orders said to have restrained any eviction action.

The publication further reported that security personnel, accompanied by officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), were present during the incident, during which occupants were asked to vacate the premises and belongings were removed.

The matter, as reported at the time, generated public debate, particularly concerning compliance with court orders and the treatment of judicial officers.

While the case remains part of public record, it continues to be referenced in discussions around governance, rule of law, and institutional accountability.
