The Kaduna State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has threatened legal action against one Imrana Wakili for making false and baseless accusations against Governor Uba Sani on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.
A statement signed by the association’s spokesperson, Alhaji Muhammad Lawal Shehu, on Wednesday demanded an immediate retraction of the allegations and a public apology.
The statement, made available to newsmen via Ibraheema Musa, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Uba Sani, warned that failure to comply within seven days “will leave us with no choice but to initiate legal proceedings.”
“It will be recalled that Imrana Wakili alleged that Governor Uba Sani approved the expenditure of ₦4.6 billion for the purchase of vehicles for local government chairmen via his X handle, @iu_wakili,” the statement said.
According to ALGON’s spokesperson, the claim is entirely false and baseless. Further details about Wakili were not included in the statement.
“Governor Uba Sani has consistently prioritized fiscal discipline and cost-cutting measures since assuming office. The referenced document is a fabrication, clearly intended to mislead the public and serve as clickbait for malicious individuals seeking attention and attempting to undermine the Governor’s administration.
“This deliberate spread of misinformation is a calculated attempt to tarnish the remarkable achievements of His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, particularly as the state marks his two years in office,” the spokesman added.
The statement also warned those behind the act to desist from disseminating false and misleading information, adding that “spreading fake news is not only irresponsible but also a grave threat to public peace and democratic governance.”
