Nasarawa Assembly condemns students protest at State Polytechnic, promises independent investigation

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has condemned in its totality the students protest at Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia which led to destruction of properties in the institution.

The House said that it would conduct an independent investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the protest and will recommend appropriate sanctions for perpetrators in order to avoid future re- occurrence.

The Chairman, House Committee on information, Hon. Mohammed Adamu Omadefu stated this when he paid an assessment visit to the school on Friday.

The lawmaker said his visit was a directive from the leadership of the House to meet with both the management and student leadership of the institution in order to hear from them.

“The state assembly condemn in its totality the destruction of properties in this institution, whatever is the reason, the students took it too far, we expect them as leaders of tomorrow not to take the law into their hands.

“I am directed by the Chairman, House Committee on Education under the instruction of Mr Speaker to visit the school, to meet with both the Rector and the leader of the student on this regard,” he said

Adamu- Omadefu said that Gov. Abdullahi Sule’s administration is investing heavily in the education sector considering its importance to societal development.

“Drawing His Excellency effort backward, honestly is totally unacceptable.

” The House will launch an independent investigation to know both the immediate and remote causes of the whole situation,” he added.

The chairman restated the House continued determination to support the state government efforts toward improving on the standard of education in the state.

Speaking separately, the Rector of the Institution, Dr. Justina Kotso and the President of Nasarawa State Student Association (NASSA) Comrade Alkamis Ladan, who narrated the entire situation to the lawmaker both condemned the destruction of the school properties, stressing that it is uncalled for.

Recall that daybreak news report that students of Mustapha Agwai 1 polytechnic, Lafia, protested yesterday over additional #10, 0000 late registration fee added by the management of the school which led to the destruction of properties in the school environment.
