Nasarawa: Group Enhances Economic, Infrastructural Development with Solar Street Lights

By Abel Zwànke, Lafia

In a bid to support economic activities, provide infrastructural development, and improve community well-being, the Maikaya Development Foundation has launched a solar street lighting project at the Mararaba Building Materials Market in Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.

Initiated by Dr. Muhammed Musa Maikaya, Founder and CEO of the foundation, the project is designed to enhance security and improve nighttime visibility for both traders and customers at the market.

At the commissioning ceremony held on Saturday, Ciroman Toto, represented by Rt. Hon. Shuaibu Sani, urged the market association to take responsibility for the maintenance of the solar-powered lights to ensure their longevity. He reassured traders of Dr. Maikaya’s continued support and emphasized the foundation’s commitment to humanitarian efforts. He further noted that similar projects have been undertaken in various communities, reflecting the foundation’s dedication to improving living conditions.

The Chairman of the Mararaba Building Materials Association, Sir Christopher Ibeh, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Maikaya for the initiative, calling it a significant contribution to the market’s development. He spoke about the previous challenges traders faced due to poor lighting and highlighted how the intervention has transformed the market’s security and business operations. He also presented an official letter of appreciation, assuring the foundation of the association’s continued support and collaboration on future community development projects.

Traders and customers at the market praised the initiative, describing it as a game-changer for their businesses. Many noted the safer and more conducive environment created by the improved lighting, particularly during evening trade hours. Some traders also urged other philanthropists and organizations to emulate Dr. Maikaya’s generosity by investing in projects that foster business growth and enhance economic activities in the state.
