By Jabiru Hassan

The National Youth Alliance (NYA) has announced the appointment of six state chairmen to oversee and strengthen its activities across the North East geopolitical zone, as part of efforts to deepen youth engagement and improve coordination in the region. The appointments, approved by the national leadership of the National Youth Alliance, were disclosed in a statement released on Friday. According to the statement, the decision aligns with the NYA’s broader strategy of consolidating youth-driven leadership, promoting peacebuilding, and enhancing grassroots participation across Nigeria. The newly appointed chairmen will lead the Alliance’s activities in Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe states. They are expected to coordinate programmes, mobilise young people, and advance the organisation’s objectives at the state level.

Those appointed include Comrade Umar D. Afakawa as Chairman for Adamawa State and Muhammad Nur as Chairman for Borno State. Adamu Almusbahuddeen was named Chairman for Bauchi State, while Comrade Abdulrazak Haruna Isah will head the Alliance in Gombe State.Others are Hon. Usman Bobbo, appointed as Chairman for Taraba State, and Hon. Muhammad Idi, who will serve as Chairman for Yobe State. The NYA leadership described the appointees as young leaders of proven capacity and integrity, with a shared commitment to youth empowerment, unity, and national development. It noted that the appointments were made after careful consideration of their experience, leadership qualities, and dedication to the ideals of the Alliance.

According to the statement, the National Youth Alliance believes the new leadership structure in the North East will strengthen its presence and effectiveness in the region, particularly in mobilising young people for constructive civic engagement and socio-economic development.“ The appointments are expected to further reposition the NYA as a formidable and inclusive platform for youth mobilisation, unity, and active participation in governance,” the statement said.

The leadership added that the North East remains a critical zone for youth-focused interventions, given its demographic profile and ongoing need for initiatives that promote peace, stability, and economic inclusion. The NYA also charged the newly appointed chairmen to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, discipline, and commitment to the Alliance’s vision. They were urged to work closely with stakeholders, community leaders, and youths at the grassroots to advance programmes that address local needs. The statement further emphasised that the appointments form part of a nationwide strategy to strengthen the organisational structure of the National Youth Alliance ahead of expanded advocacy and youth engagement activities.

While congratulating the appointees, the national leadership assured members and supporters that the Alliance remains focused on building a united, responsive, and action-oriented youth movement across all geopolitical zones. It added that details regarding the formal inauguration of the North East chairmen, as well as their official engagements and programme rollout, would be communicated in due course. The National Youth Alliance reiterated its commitment to fostering responsible youth leadership and encouraging young Nigerians to play active roles in peacebuilding, governance, and national development.
