NDE Urges Aspiring Entrepreneurs to Register for Skills Acquisition Program

From Leo Zwan̩ke, Lafia

The Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Silas Agara, has urged aspiring entrepreneurs to take advantage of the ongoing registration for skills acquisition and empowerment programs available on the NDE portal.

Agara made the appeal during a meeting yesterday with Nasarawa State University, Keffi’s management team, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Sa’adatu Liman.

Agara emphasized the legitimacy of the NDE platform, stating that it is designed to support aspiring entrepreneurs on their path toward self-employment.

“We have created this platform to offer essential training and mentorship to help entrepreneurs navigate the complexities of the business world,” Agara said. He further explained that the programs are tailored to equip participants with skills that enable them to compete in the global market.

Professor Liman praised the efforts of the NDE and the leadership of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for appointing Agara. “Nasarawa State University shares the same vision of fostering an entrepreneurial spirit among Nigerian youths,” she said, highlighting the university’s commitment to supporting young talents through various centers and institutes dedicated to mentorship.

As part of this effort, Professor Liman revealed plans to establish a state-of-the-art center for disability studies that will offer tailored vocational training to individuals with disabilities. “We want to ensure these individuals can establish their own businesses after graduation, supported by start-up capital from philanthropic donors,” Liman stated.

The Vice Chancellor also noted that the university is integrating digital technology into its operations, improving management practices such as student payments and financial reconciliations. “We are seeing the benefits of adopting new technologies to enhance our educational programs,” Liman added.

The collaboration between the NDE and Nasarawa State University aims to create a more inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem, equipping Nigerian youths with essential skills for workforce success while fostering innovation and accessibility for all.
