The Senate of Nigeria has summoned the Chairman of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), General Buba Marwa, in connection with a drug raid at the residence of Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Oyelola Ashiru (APC, Kwara South). NDLEA claims that drugs were found at the senator’s house in Ilorin, Kwara State, and two of his aides were arrested.

Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s media director, revealed that the raid occurred on February 4, 2024, following intelligence reports that the senator’s house was being used as a drug hub. A six-member Senate panel, led by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (APGA, Abia South), has been set up to investigate the matter.

The investigation follows Senator Ashiru’s complaint, as he claims the allegations have damaged his reputation. The Senate held a closed-door session to discuss the issue further.
