The Citizens and Economic Freedom Rights Activists in Nigeria
(CEFRAN) has urged the federal government to initiate independent leadership at the Nigerian
National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other oil and gas
agencies.
The coalition also called for an independent judicial inquiry to address
concerns surrounding the recent importation of adulterated fuel.
At a press briefing in Abuja, CEFRAN’s convener, Obinna Francis, expressed concern over the fuel quality imported by Matrix Energy and its partners, emphasising the potential health risks associated with the distribution of substandard products.
“It is troubling that Nigeria, as
Africa’s largest oil producer, faces
challenges related to the quality of
imported petrol. This situation underscores the need for stronger oversight and accountability in the sector,” Francis noted.
He further highlighted concerns
about reports suggesting the blending of imported fuel in Malta before
its distribution in Nigeria, urging
the government to investigate these
practices thoroughly
