Nigeria Mining Reforms: 300 Illegal Operators Arrested, Global Investors Engaged

By  Milcah   Tanimu

Nigeria’s mining sector is undergoing major reforms with over 2,000 mine marshals arresting nearly 300 illegal operators, including foreign nationals. Dr. Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, shared the news during a House Committee visit in Abuja.

The reforms focus on enhanced security to tackle illegal mining, a growing challenge threatening local communities and Nigeria’s global image. Dr. Alake credited President Bola Tinubu for supporting inter-ministerial collaboration to improve security.

“These reforms are already reducing illegal mining activities,” Dr. Alake said, adding that they offer a stable environment for global investors. The Ministry is also positioning Nigeria as a global mining hub, attracting international partnerships for sector growth.

The reforms aim to significantly contribute to Nigeria’s economy, bolstering the nation’s GDP.
