The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and affiliated unions are gearing up for nationwide protests aimed at highlighting the country’s high cost of living, inflation, insecurity, and general hardships.
Reporters arriving at the Labour House headquarters in Abuja at 7:12 a.m. observed various union members and concerned Nigerians converging at the venue.
The presence of Department of State Services (DSS) operatives was also noted.
On February 8, the NLC and the Trade Union Congress issued a 14-day strike notice to the Federal Government, citing its failure to implement agreements reached on October 2 following the removal of fuel subsidy.
In response to the government’s failure to meet their demands within the ultimatum period, organised labour has scheduled a two-day nationwide protest for Tuesday, February 27, and Wednesday, February 28.
Last Monday, labour commenced mobilising its members across the country in preparation for the protests, emphasizing the pressing need to address the escalating cost of living.
