NSCDC Seeks Public Assistance to Reunite Lost 8-Year-Old Boy with Family in Anambra

By Abigail Philip David

The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is seeking public assistance to locate the family of an eight-year-old boy, Divine Chisimdi Onyejiaka, who fled his home to avoid punishment from his mother.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Head of Media and Tactical Operations for the NSCDC Anambra Command, Okadigbo Edwin, revealed that the boy was brought to their headquarters in Awka on December 20 by a concerned citizen.

Onyejiaka, a pupil of St. Raphael Nursery/Primary School in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area, was found wandering in Awka without a clear destination. He is described as fair in complexion, about three feet tall, and without any tribal marks.

The statement read:
“On December 20, 2024, at approximately 7:20 a.m., a kind-hearted individual brought eight-year-old Master Divine Chisimdi Onyejiaka to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command Headquarters in Awka. Onyejiaka, a resident of Okpoko in Ogbaru LGA, was found wandering without a specified destination.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that the boy left home after being disciplined by his mother, Mrs. Nnenna Onyejiaka. However, how he traveled from Okpoko to Awka remains unclear, as he could not provide a coherent explanation.

Despite efforts to locate his family, the NSCDC has yet to identify his parents or relatives. Currently, the boy is under the protective care of the NSCDC’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit.

The statement added:
“In light of this, the Command appeals to the public for help in tracing the family of Master Divine Chisimdi Onyejiaka. Anyone with information about his parents or relatives is urged to contact the NSCDC. Let us work together to reunite this child with his loved ones.”

For assistance or information, the public is encouraged to contact the NSCDC Anambra Command’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit at 08035771835.
