The management of Sterling Petrochemicals and Fertilizer Company has confirmed the death of three persons following a road accident involving one of its vehicles in Ette, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
In a statement issued on Monday by its Media Department in Uyo, the company expressed condolences to the families of the victims and described the incident as deeply regrettable.
The firm said security agencies, including the police and the Joint Task Force (JTF), have been deployed to the scene to manage the situation, ensure the free flow of traffic and determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
According to the statement, the company has in recent times strengthened safety protocols across its operational routes to minimise risks and enhance transportation safety within host communities.
It listed measures such as the distribution of free reflectors to motorcyclists, public awareness campaigns against unsafe riding, stricter speed monitoring for company vehicles and the deployment of over 30 trained flagmen in high-risk areas, particularly during periods of low visibility.
“Our thoughts are with all those affected during this very difficult time. As a member of the host community, we stand by them with all necessary support,” the company stated.
It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high safety standards in its operations, adding that further updates would be provided as investigations into the incident continue.
