“Olofin of Isheri Counters Oba of Benin, Asserts Aworis as Lagos’ First Settlers”

By   Milcah   Tanimu

Oba Sulaimon Bamgbade, the Olofin of Isheri and Adimula of Awori Kingdom, has challenged the assertion by the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, regarding the origin of Lagos. Oba Bamgbade emphasized that the Aworis were the first settlers in Lagos and urged Oba Ewuare II to trace the Benin Kingdom’s origin back to Ile Ife, similar to the Awori tradition. The statement comes in response to Oba Ewuare II’s recent comment attributing the founding of Lagos to the Benis. Oba Bamgbade clarified that Lagos was established by Olofin Ogunfuminire, the progenitor of the Awori people.
