The Ondo State Government is set to deploy a digital payment platform to streamline tax collection and other government-related payments, improving efficiency and accountability.
This initiative follows a partnership between the state’s Internal Revenue Service and BBA Consult Ltd., a consulting firm specializing in financial technology solutions.
Speaking after a demonstration meeting at the Governor’s Office in Akure, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modernizing revenue collection through innovative technology.
He emphasized that the digital platform would simplify tax payments while significantly boosting revenue generation by reducing leakages and enhancing compliance.
“With this system, we will have better financial capacity to invest in critical infrastructure such as roads, healthcare, schools, and other essential public services,” the governor stated.
Aiyedatiwa urged residents and businesses to embrace the new platform, assuring them of its security, user-friendliness, and long-term benefits for the state’s economic growth.
How the Digital Payment System Works
Explaining the platform’s functionality, Maryam Abisola, Director at BBA Consult Ltd., noted that every taxpayer in Ondo State would be assigned a unique ID linked to their personal profile, including phone number, address, and age.
She assured residents that all personal data would remain confidential and accessible only to the individual taxpayer.
During a live demonstration, the consultant showcased how the governor, as the first registered taxpayer on the platform, could seamlessly generate and pay his annual tax bill.
The system allows users to:
- Select the government agency they are paying to
- Choose from multiple payment options, including card payments, bank transfers, USSD codes, or in-person payments at designated banks
- Download receipts with unique verification codes, which tax officials can authenticate via the platform
Beyond taxes, the platform serves as a one-stop shop for various government-related payments, including land and housing, commerce and industry, billboard advertising, hospital management, natural resources, and education fees.
Describing it as an all-inclusive solution, Abisola emphasized that the system would eliminate the bottlenecks of manual payments, ensuring seamless transactions for both the government and citizens.

The demonstration was attended by key government officials, including:
- Dr. Taye Fasoranti – Secretary to the State Government
- Mrs. Omowumi Isaac – Commissioner for Finance
- Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN – Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice
- Mr. Bayo Rojugbokan – Chairman, Internal Revenue Service
The new digital initiative is expected to drive financial transparency, improve service delivery, and support Ondo State’s economic growth.
