Osinbajo Commends Gov Diri for Impactful Infrastructure Delivery

Former Vice President of Nigeria, , has praised Bayelsa State Governor, , for prioritising people-oriented infrastructure projects, stressing that the essence of politics is to improve lives.

Osinbajo gave the commendation during the inauguration of the Agbura–Ox-Bow Lake Road in , noting that the project reflects the governor’s commitment to delivering meaningful development.

He described the road as “very special in many ways,” stating that it opens up Agbura, Swali and other communities in Yenagoa Local Government Area, while also linking the Ogbia axis, home to the and , where crude oil was first discovered in commercial quantity in Nigeria.

“I want to commend the governor for doing what is right — providing facilities that make life easier for the people. That is the whole point of politics,” Osinbajo said.

He recalled earlier visits to the area when the project was still at the planning stage, noting that the transformation from dense forest to a completed road and bridge infrastructure demonstrated the governor’s commitment to fulfilling promises.

Osinbajo also offered prayers for the continued progress of the state, expressing optimism that the current development efforts would yield greater results.

In his remarks, Governor Diri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering inclusive development across all parts of the state. He described Osinbajo as “a true son of Bayelsa” and appreciated his continued support.

The governor said the project aligns with his administration’s “Assured Prosperity” agenda, aimed at ensuring development reaches even the most remote communities. He dismissed the notion of difficult terrain as a barrier to development, insisting it is the responsibility of government to harness available resources for the benefit of the people.

Diri also thanked President for his support and encouragement towards the state’s development efforts.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, , said the project spans 6.72 kilometres, featuring a 7.3-metre carriageway with asphalt layers, 2.35-metre shoulders on both sides and extensive drainage systems.

According to him, construction began on May 17, 2024, and was completed in February 2026, marking a significant milestone in the administration’s efforts to improve connectivity and enhance the quality of life for residents.
