PDP flag at Akpabio’s Presidential declaration stirs tension in A’Ibom

A PDP banner erected at Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium, venue of Wednesday’s declaration by the Hon Minister, Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godwill Akpabio has began to generate controversy in Akwa Ibom.

The banner has the caption “People’s Democratic Party, Akwa Ibom State Chapter in support of His Excellency, Chief Dr Godswill Akpabio for President in 2023”.

Akpabio, former Governor of the state is declaring under the All Preogressive Congress, APC at his Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency base.

The latest development has thrown members of the political class into confusion and shock as considering that his state Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel is currently contesting as President under PDP.

Giving reasons for the action, a man who claimed to be a member of PDP at the venue told our correspondent that the action was taken because the Governor failed to consult the party in the state before embarking on such a significant contest.

“Charity must always begin at home. how can our Governor be going round the country to consult for a presidential election without first of all informing Akwa Ibom people?” the source who craved anonymity queried.
