The Director General of the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA), Pharm. Kim Bot, has pledged tougher action against the circulation of fake and expired products across the state.
His statement follows the interception of several substandard drugs and consumables in shops and stalls in Langtang North Local Government Area.
Langtang North Chairman, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, had earlier warned that such dangerous products threaten the health and lives of residents and would not be tolerated.
Reacting, Pharm. Bot said the seized items and the broader fight against fake drugs should be handled by the agency, which was established by Governor Caleb Mutfwang to strengthen monitoring and regulation.
“The establishment of this agency has made it easier for us to trace and flag medications circulating in the state that are below standard. This is unacceptable in Plateau State, and we will not tolerate it. We are already going harder on those responsible for these acts,” he said.
He added that the agency would collaborate with Langtang North, other councils, and relevant organizations to eliminate the circulation of counterfeit products.
According to him, Governor Mutfwang remains committed to protecting the lives of citizens by supporting the agency’s crackdown on fake and substandard drugs.
