Plateau Governor Proposes ₦471bn 2025 Budget, Emphasizes Development and Sustainability

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State on Monday presented a proposed budget of ₦471.13 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly. Tagged the “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability,” the proposal reflects an increase of ₦156.28 billion from the 2024 approved budget.

Key Allocations

The budget comprises:

  • Recurrent Expenditure: ₦201.52 billion (43.46% of the total budget).
  • Capital Expenditure: ₦269.61 billion (56.54% of the total budget).

Governor Mutfwang explained that the capital expenditure targets critical areas such as agriculture, education, health, infrastructure, and security, aiming to address the state’s developmental needs.

Focus on Growth and Collaboration

“This budget reflects our commitment to solidify past achievements and ensure continued growth and development in Plateau State,” Mutfwang said during his presentation in Jos. He added that the budget aligns with the Plateau Strategic Development Framework (PSDF) 2023-2027, focusing on three key pillars:

  1. Peace, Security, and Good Governance.
  2. Sustainable Economic Rebirth.
  3. Physical Infrastructure Development.

The governor emphasized collaboration between government agencies, security forces, and citizens for effective budget implementation, particularly in tackling insecurity and economic challenges.

Revenue Sources and Priorities

The proposed revenue sources include internally generated revenue (IGR), federal allocation, and grants. The IGR is projected at ₦50.42 billion. Key priorities under the capital expenditure include:

  • Road development.
  • Healthcare.
  • Education.
  • Water infrastructure.

Governor Mutfwang also unveiled a Ward Development Initiative (WDI), aimed at implementing grassroots projects in all 325 electoral wards across the state.

Call for Legislative Approval

The governor urged the legislature to promptly approve the budget, assuring transparent and efficient implementation to ensure that all citizens benefit from the fiscal plan.

Legislative Response

Gabriel Kudangbena Dewan, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, assured that the assembly would thoroughly review and pass the appropriation bill, recognizing its potential to drive peace and prosperity across the state.

Governor Mutfwang’s proposal underscores a strong focus on consolidating past achievements while addressing the pressing needs of Plateau State citizens.
