Plateau Killings: Gov Mutfwang Urges Residents to Avoid Reprisals, Maintain Peace

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has called on residents to refrain from reprisals and unlawful actions following renewed attacks in parts of the state. The governor made the appeal on Sunday at the headquarters of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Jos, amid reports of recent killings in Dorowa Babuje, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. The incidents have prompted intensified security operations.

Mutfwang urged parents across religious lines to guide their children against hasty judgments that could endanger innocent people. He also advised community, traditional and religious leaders to discourage actions such as blocking highways or carrying out unauthorised searches during periods of tension.

He warned that isolated acts driven by anger or misinformation could undermine peace efforts and damage the state’s reputation. The governor commended residents for their support for security agencies in tackling criminality, banditry and kidnapping. He expressed confidence that Plateau would overcome its security and socio-economic challenges.

Mutfwang assured farmers of safe access to their farmlands ahead of the planting season and pledged continued efforts to resettle internally displaced persons in their communities. He also encouraged eligible residents, particularly youths who have turned 18, to participate in the Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
