Plateau LGA Polls: CNYGG Passes Vote of Confidence on PLASIEC Over Election Conduct

By Israel Adamu, Jos

The leadership and members of the Coalition of Nigerian Youths for Good Governance (CNYGG) on Friday passed a vote of confidence in the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC), under the leadership of Mr. Plangji Cishak, for what they described as the credible, transparent, and successful conduct of the local government elections held on October 9, 2024.

This was contained in a statement signed by Comrade Prince Maipahen, the Coordinator of CNYGG, and made available to newsmen in Jos.

The statement reads: “Having closely monitored the electoral process from its commencement to its conclusion, we are proud to acknowledge that the Commission truly lived up to its promise of delivering free, fair, and credible elections.”

“The fact that various political parties won councilorship seats across the 17 local government areas of the state is a testament to the transparency of the exercise and the integrity of the electoral process. It is clear that the voice of the people was heard, and their votes genuinely counted.”

The group added: “We urge other state electoral bodies across the nation to draw inspiration from the commendable example set by Mr. Plangji Cishak and his team.”

“Their efforts have demonstrated the true spirit of democracy and good governance at the grassroots level, the tier of government closest to the people.”

The statement also expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, for upholding democratic principles by allowing the Commission to discharge its mandate freely, without undue interference. This, the group noted, greatly contributed to the success of the elections and sets a positive example for the rest of the country.

“We congratulate all the candidates who emerged victorious in the Plateau local government council polls.”

“It is our sincere hope that with the recent grant of local government autonomy by the Tinubu administration, the third tier of government will be fully empowered to deliver people-centered governance that truly serves the needs and aspirations of the people at the local level,” the statement concluded.
