The Nasarawa State Police command has apprehended three individuals posing as officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the Nasarawa Local Government Area. According to DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, the suspects had been causing unrest in the area and recently conducted a robbery and abduction operation near the Federal Polytechnic in Nasarawa LGA.
On April 17, 2024, the suspects, pretending to be EFCC personnel, robbed students of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa at Samakwe Lodge and abducted a National Diploma student, Adudu Kingsley. However, following diligent efforts by police officers, the victim was released and the suspects were apprehended.
A distress call led to a chase, and a roadblock was set up to intercept the suspects. Although they attempted to flee, one suspect was caught by a mob and later died during medical treatment after being rescued by the police. The operational vehicle used by the suspects was recovered, along with fake EFCC identification cards.
Further investigation led to the arrest of three other members of the gang: Hyelda Aliyu Ibrahim, Henry Patrick Okwu, and Shuaibu Abubakar. Items stolen from victims, including an iPhone 12 Promax, Huawei, and a Tecno Spark 5, were recovered from them. The suspects confessed to their involvement in robberies and disturbances in student areas of Keffi and Nasarawa LGA.
Commissioner of Police CP Umar Nadada has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia. The suspects will be prosecuted upon the completion of the investigation.
