The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has officially commenced activities for the 2026 Police Week Celebration with a statewide sanitation exercise and medical to promote public health and reinforce community partnership across the State.
The sanitation exercise involved officers and men actively participating in cleaning markets, roads and other public place highlighting the Command’s commitment to community service and its resolve to contribute to a cleaner and safer environment.
The Command also rolled out a medical programme providing members of the public with access to free medical consultations, basic health screenings, and distribution of essential medications aimed at supporting the health needs of residents and strengthening the bond between the Police and the communities they serve.
State Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare who led Officers to selected locations for the sanitation exercise noted that the activities form part of efforts to deepen community engagement and promote the spirit of service in line with the objectives of the Police Week celebration.
Azare encouraged residents to sustain clean and healthy environments, emphasizing that collective responsibility and cooperation remain critical in building safer communities.
The commissioner further reiterated the Command’s commitment to people-oriented policing and initiatives that foster trust, mutual respect, and collaboration with the public.
The Command would also carry out public sensitization campaigns focusing on the prevention of electoral violence and other related offences while road users would also be educated on safe driving practices and the importance of compliance with traffic regulations.
The programme would further feature a solemn presentation of welfare cheques to families of deceased officers, in honour of the sacrifices made by fallen heroes as part of ongoing efforts to support their loved ones.
