Police nab fake Asst. Comm, 212 other suspects in A’Ibom

By Emeka Samuel

The Police in Akwa Ibom has apprehended one Kingsley Udoyen (M) for parading himself as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).

It has also arrested more than 212 other suspects for various offenses including armed robbery, child theft and defilement and kidnapping in the last three months in the area.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Musa Kimo, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in the Police Headquarters in Uyo on Thursday. Kimo said during the period under review the command arrested 213 suspects and secured 18 convictions, adding that 111 were charged to Court.

The commissioner stated that the fake ACP had been using the rank to defraud and threaten unsuspecting members of the public and has illegally been enjoying the privileges of the office from members of the public and has been assisted by a serving policewoman who procured the uniforms for him.

He said that during a police search in his house at Abak area of the state, one English pistol without magazine and ammunition, portraits of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and other implicating items were discovered.

“Below is a list of some of our noble achievements, the arrest of one Kingsley Udoyen (M) of No 3 Stadium Road, Abak on January 2, 2019, for personating to be a Senior Police Officer, of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). “A position he has used to defraud and threatened unsuspecting members of the public.
“A search in his house led to the recovery of one English pistol without magazine and ammunition, portraits of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
“Three pairs of uniform, Police belt, fake Police ID Card and other documents from the suspect,” Kimo explained.
The CP also said that the command on January 13, arrested one Joseph Effiong (M) 29 years from Ikono LGA, a security guard at Royal City Central Chapel Church, who lured a four-year-old minor to an uncompleted building and defiled her.

According to the commissioner, the command on January 18 also arrested one Joseph Akpanowo (M) who stole his one year four months old daughter and sold her to one Nyakno Uwa (F) residing at Port Harcourt for the sum of N150, 000.

Kimo added that during the investigation the sum of N125, 000 being part of the proceeds was discovered from him.
The commissioner of police warned politicians to eschew politics of bitterness and thuggery as the country was in a critical time of the general elections.

Kimo said the police would remain apolitical, non-partisan, neutral and fair to all political parties during the forthcoming general elections.

On the formation of an anti-terrorism unit in the state by the police authorities, the commissioner said that the state should be grateful to the police authorities for the move rather than criticising the move
in an interview with newsmen, Udoyen said he was dismissed from the force in 2007 and has been assisted by a serving female officer based at the Police Secondary School.

“I started when I lost my job, I was with the police in Alagbon as a superintendent of police. I was dismissed in 2007 because of the illegal job I went for. I left Lagos in 2008 and went to Calabar where I met Glory Etim, my girlfriend. She is the one who bought all these police uniforms for me, she is a serving officer and works with the Police Secondary School.

“I am a car dealer and I go to Cotonou. Since I was dismissed, I don’t have a job. I am 56 years old from Mbiaobong Ikot Etefia in Ikono and I am married with four children. I know what I am doing is against the law.” He explained.
