Sources revealed that the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon beneath the Sango-Ota bridge. Details surrounding the shooting are still unclear, but a police source, who spoke anonymously because they were not authorised to comment publicly, disclosed that the comedian was injured while filming a comedy skit at the location.
According to the source, Broda Shaggy was quickly taken by members of his crew to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos State, where he received initial medical attention.
“He was filming a skit under the Sango-Ota bridge when he sustained a gunshot injury. We are yet to determine exactly how it happened, but his colleagues rushed him to the hospital immediately,” the source said.
Medical staff reportedly administered first aid upon his arrival before referring him to Duchess Hospital in the Government Residential Area, Ikeja, where he is currently recovering.
Attempts to reach both hospitals for confirmation were unsuccessful, as calls to their publicly listed contact numbers did not go through, and text messages sent had not been responded to as of the time this report was filed.
Speaking on the incident on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the police were alerted by the hospital about the case.
“The hospital notified the police that a gunshot victim had been brought in. Detectives and a patrol team were dispatched to the facility, where they found that the victim was a skit maker and social media personality known as Broda Shaggy,” she said.
Adebisi added that the comedian was found on a stretcher with an injury to his thigh. She noted that the shooting reportedly occurred in Sango-Ota, which is outside the jurisdiction of the Lagos State Police Command, but investigations are ongoing.
When contacted for further clarification, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the incident had not been officially reported to the police in the state.
“The alleged incident happened in Ogun State, but it has not been reported to us,” he said.
Meanwhile, Broda Shaggy’s manager, Olufemi Oguntamu, popularly known as Penzaar, did not respond to calls placed to his phone, and a text message sent to him had not been replied to as of the time of filing this report.
It would be recalled that in October 2024, another content creator, Afeez Ojesanmi, popularly known as Salo, was reportedly robbed of his jewellery and shot in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
