The Executive Secretary of PTAD, Mrs Sharon Ikeazor, said in a statement on Wednesday in Yola that the exercise was directed by President Muhammadu Buhari as part of efforts to ensure that ex workers of privatised/defunct companies yet to be paid their entitlements were paid.

Ikeazor noted that “the verification is in furtherance of the President’s commitment to improve the welfare of all Nigerian pensioners.”

She explained that verification of former staff of Savannah Sugar Company, Numan, Adamawa, started on Monday and would last for 10 days.

She noted that the affected staff were those disengaged in 2002, expected to present their letter of first appointment, last promotion or salary increase/upgrade, letter of disengagement/evidence of payment by BPE, one month bank statement, BVN slip and valid means of identification such as national ID card, voter card, driving lincence or international passport.

The executive secretary also said that the directorate concluded preparations and would soon commence verification of other treasury funded parastatals, including defunct/privatised agencies across the country.

Some of the ex workers undergoing the verification told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that they were happy with the present administration for remembering them.

One of the ex workers, Lawan Kulati, who said that he worked in Savannah for 29 years before his disengagement, added that “I am over joyed by this concern shown by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and I will continue to pray for the government to continue to succeed in its good plans for the nation.
