Rep Bashes Buhari over insecurity

Doris Ferdinand

A member representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu federal constituency, Hon Tajudeen Yusuf- PDP-Kogi State has blamed the president for the persistent insecurity in the country.

The lawmaker while addressing the House of Representatives correspondents on Wednesday said the government of the day as well as the political class has not done enough for the electorate.

He further urged the president to come out of the cocoon and realise that he is the president of all Nigerians.

“We are where we are based on the failure of the political class.

“We have not failed the nation but we have not done well.”

The lawmaker however said that the former president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was a democratic president and hence was liberal to all unlike the present government.

Yusuf decried the deplorable state of the nation noting that the president is surrounded by sycophants who would not tell him the truth citing the incident where the lawmakers invited the president to discuss the way forward on security, but naysayers around him said the house summoned the president and faulted the house.

Yusuf charged the president to live by the book. “The day we have a leader who is not verbatim but consciously living in it, everything will fall in place.”

On the call for recruitment of more officers into the security force, the lawmaker said rather than recruit, the force should be equipped. He also called for a total overhaul of the Nigerian army.

“Nigerian army needs to be rejig. If I have my way for now, let’s get the machinery. Nigerian military is compromised.”

Addressing the National Assembly as being rubber stamp, Yusuf noted that the lawmakers are slow in action.

“Collectively, we are not as effective as we should be.”

Yusuf commended the governor of Rivers State- Gov. Wike for being unequivocal, fearless, one who doesn’t mince word, one who speaks the truth the way it is and said he is his choice candidate for president if he decide to run as he possess the desired qualities to lead.
