The Maigari of Lokoja, HRH, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Kabir Gambo Makarfi IV, on Monday commissioned the newly rehabilitated Ankpa Township Stadium.
Amongst the royal entourage was
Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, a son of the soil who was part of the royal delegation received high-profile commendations.
In a release signed by the Director, Public Relations and Protocol of the Polytechnic, Uredo Omale stated that HRH, Alhaji Dr. Sadiq Ahmed Yakubu, the Ejeh of Ankpa, hosted the event at his palace where he highlighted historic bonds. He said, “The Maigari is not a stranger; his mother is Igala from Idah! Our fathers were friends as Kings – today we continue that legacy.”
The Ejeh notably commended Prof. Usman’s participation in the royal entourage.
In response, the Maigari confirmed his roots; “My mother was Igala from Idah, though I regret not speaking the language.”
He then endorsed Prof. Usman; “I am very proud of him for what he has done at Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja” he said.
Amidst the celebrations, Professor Usman took time to honor his loyalist Yunusa Abuh, who was coronated as Gago of Angwa Ebitakpa (with traditional salutation Saaki).
The royal delegation later proceeded to the rehabilitated stadium for formal commissioning, paving way for the Ejeh Ankpa Unity Cup final.
In his remarks, Prof. Usman thanked both monarchs saying “This royal synergy is pivotal for regional progress.”
The event was graced by prominent chiefs, community leaders, and dignitaries across Kogi State.
