Security operatives have repelled an attempted attack by suspected bandits in Kampani village, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, residents said.
The incident occurred at about 4 p.m. on Saturday, when armed men reportedly entered the community, causing panic among villagers.Shapi’i Sambo, a youth leader in the area, told journalists that local authorities alerted security agencies after receiving distress calls from residents.
According to him, security personnel responded swiftly, engaged the attackers and forced them to retreat into nearby bushes. He said operatives subsequently carried out patrols and sweeps to secure the area and ensure residents’ safety. “No casualties were reported among the villagers,” Sambo said, adding that calm has since been restored.
Residents have commended the state government, local authorities and security agencies for their response, he added. Community members have also been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to security agencies.There was no immediate official statement from security authorities at the time of filing this report.
