Senate Holds Closed-Door Meeting Amidst Ministerial Nominee Speculations

Must read

The Senate is currently in a closed-door meeting shortly after the commencement of today’s plenary, primarily prompted by speculations surrounding the list of ministerial nominees believed to have been submitted by the Presidency.

After addressing petitions, which was the fifth item on the Order Paper, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, made an announcement that Senators should proceed into an executive sessione. Senator Opeyemi Bamidel (APC, Ekiti Central) had previously made the announcement.

The closed-door session commenced at 11:59 a.m.

Sources indicate that the meeting is likely focused on the ministerial nominees from President Bola Tinubu. The list appears to be causing tensions among the Senators, necessitating the need for this closed-door gathering.

It is worth noting that the President of the Senate had a prolonged meeting with major stakeholders yesterday to discuss pertinent issues.

Sources further reveal that the President of the Senate is already in possession of the list, which may potentially be read out after the closed-door meeting or in the following week, as there will be no plenary scheduled for tomorrow.
