Senator Wamakko Settles Over N2.5m Cardiothoracic Medical Bills

Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Sarkin Yamman Sokoto, representing Sokoto North Senatorial District has on friday paid N2,594,000 medical bills of the eight Cardiothorocic patients who were operated by the 24-man Saudi Arabian Medical team.

Presenting the money to the patients on behalf of Wamakko, Alhaji Bashar Muhammad Sokoto said that, the gesture followed the directives by him that all those operated during the surgery be refunded the money they used in purchasing their medications and other medical equipment.

Bashar Sokoto explained that during the visit of the Saudi madical team at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital Sokoto, twenty patients were scheduled to undergo open heart surgery but, eight were operated upon.

He added that, this was part of Senator Wamakko’s relentless efforts in bringing succor to the indigent and other vulnerables in the society.

He further said, ” each patient was refunded with the sum of three Hundred and twenty four thousand two hundred and fifty Naira as directed by the Senator.”

Special Adviser on Media to the Senator, Basharhose who benefited with the gesture by Senator Wamakko include: Fodio Bello Shehu, Rashida Alhaji, Rabi Idris and Shema’u Musa, Fatima Umar Dewa, Yunusa Abubakar, Atika Hassan and Abubakar Shehu.

A total sum of Two Million Five Hundred and Ninety four thousand Naira was released to pay the cumulative patients’ bills by the Senator Wamakko, who is also a Member of the Muslim World League.

Commenting during the exercise, Head of Cardiothorocic Unit of the Hospital, Dr Abubakar Umar, described the magnanimity of the Senator as unparalled.

” This is a highly welcome development and a source of encouragement, especially to the patients and their relatives.”

He therefore, on behalf of the Hospital’s management thanked Senator Wamakko for the invaluable gesture and prayed to the Almighty Allah to reward him abundantly.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke expressed delight with the assistance by Senator Wamakko.

They further commended for logically initiating and effectively facilitating the program that resulted in the visit of the Saudi Medical Team to Sokoto.

During the presentation exercise which was done at the male and female wards of the hospital, the representative of the Senator was accompanied by Alhaji Almustapha Abubakar Alkali, Director of Administration in the office of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, among others.

It could be recalled that, a 24-member Team of Saudi Medical Doctors came to Sokoto last week and successfully performed free open heart surgeries on the eight lucky patients.

All the costs of accommodation, feeding and other logistics of the visiting Medical Doctors were fully shouldered by Senator Wamakko, throughout their stay in Nigeria.
