The Executive Chairman of Shendam Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Nicholas Kemi Nshe, has pledged to boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the council through strategic economic initiatives.
Hon. Nshe made this known when he led a high-powered delegation to inspect a strategic property owned by the council in Karu, Abuja.
According to a statement signed by Fredrick Kattiems, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the chairman, the delegation included members of the Executive Council, the Legislative Council, advisers, and other key stakeholders of Shendam Local Government Area.
The inspection visit marked a major step toward the chairman’s vision to establish the Shendam Continental Hotel, a landmark hospitality project aimed at stimulating economic growth, creating employment, and offering long-term opportunities—especially for the youth.
The proposed hotel will feature approximately 64 rooms, including a presidential lodge, positioning it as a major hub for hospitality and investment. The project is expected to be completed and commissioned within six months.
“The property, which spans 3,000 square meters, currently hosts an aging 13-room structure previously occupied by some Shendam indigenes,” the statement said. “The occupants have been respectfully relocated and adequately compensated, allowing construction to begin without delay.”
During the site inspection, the Local Government Lands Officer and the project contractor described the property’s previous condition as an “eyesore.” They disclosed that prior to the chairman’s intervention, some criminal elements had attempted to illegally sell the land, but the plot was foiled due to swift and decisive action by the council boss.
Hon. Nshe stressed the importance of reducing local governments’ overdependence on federal allocations by creating sustainable revenue-generating ventures. He described the hotel project as a strategic investment that would benefit Shendam for generations.
Also speaking during the inspection, Hon. Danladi Bawa, Leader of the Legislative Council, commended the initiative and pledged the legislature’s full support. He announced that the council had unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the chairman’s leadership.
