At least six Fulani residents have reportedly been killed, and scores injured, after an attack by local youths in Mera community, Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The attack, which occurred Sunday evening, was reportedly a retaliation following accusations linking some Fulani individuals to recent bandit raids in the region.
The violence was allegedly triggered when a survivor of Friday’s bandit attack claimed to have recognized some Fulani individuals among the attackers, locally referred to as the “Lakurawa.”
Outraged by the information, the youths launched a retaliatory assault on Fulani residents, resulting in six fatalities and multiple injuries.
Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, describing it as “reprisal violence by the angry youths.” He stated that law enforcement personnel have been deployed to the community to prevent further escalation of violence.
“We have deployed personnel to the area to calm the situation,” Abubakar assured, emphasizing that efforts are underway to restore peace in the troubled area.
