Six key facts about Mohammed Umar Abba, the acting Chairman of the EFCC:

1. Mohammed Umar Abba was born on June 22, 1965, in Tudunwada Local Government Area of Kano State.

 

2. Abba obtained his first degree from Bayero University, Kano. Following that, he completed his one-year national service at the former Anambra State Police Command and later joined the Nigeria Police Force. He attended the Nigeria Police Academy in Kaduna State and was commissioned in 1992.

 

3. In January 2016, CP Abba was seconded to the EFCC, where he assumed the position of the head of the Counterterrorism and General Investigations (CTGI) Section at the Headquarters in Abuja.

 

4. Abba was appointed as the Director of Operations of the EFCC in 2017.

 

5. In 2019, he received a promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police.

 

6. On July 9, 2020, Abba assumed the role of Acting Chairman of the EFCC. He took on this position as the most senior operational officer following the suspension of the former chairman, Ibrahim Magu.
