Sokoto ASUU Branch Falcify Ngige On Resumption Of Work

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Academic Staff Union Of Universities Usman Danfodio University Branch has denied the statement made by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige that they had commenced teaching as he stated in an interview with Arise TV on the 14th of July this year.

In the interview, according to the branch chairperson, Professor M. N. Almustapha, Ngige out rightly misinformed Nigerians about the actual state of the ASUU-FGN reconciliation efforts.

“Medical lecturers are at work, they are teaching. Sokoto has graduated their medical students, they are reasonable people, they have tested the strike, and saw that it produces no result, yes, they did it the last time, so today, they have written, their vice Chancellor has approved that they are at work. The labour controllers in those states have also confirmed that they are at work and I have advised the finance Minister and they are processing their payments”, were the exact words of Ngige on which the Sokoto ASUU branch are fighting against.

Responding to the habitual characteristics of the Labour and Productivity Minister, according to the branch Chairman, he placed a call on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency take necessary action and bring Dr. Ngige to order before he plunge this nation into serious crisis considering his utterances here and there.

The Sokoto Council Chairman, Dalhatu Abdullahi S/Magori, both the ASUU and Federal Government should consider that students have been dormant for about five months at home waiting for Federal government or ASUU to bring things to normalcy and urged working journalists in the state to contribute through continuous writing for the matter at hand to come to end.
