The Sokoto State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Saturday,
18th February 2023 at its Congress meeting urged members to ensure prompt revalidation of their membership by being up to date in both dues and Identity Cards to avoid embarrassment.
The congress held at the Press Center warned that members should remain apolitical and avoid the temptation of being used for blackmail and character assassination for undue favour from politicians as the 2023 general elections draws closer.
Contained in a communique signed by the chairman and secretary Dalhatu Abdullahi S/Magoru and Muhammad Nasir Bello advised that Members should uphold the confidence reposed on them by the people, remain objective, embrace all and act professionally.
It also said that there is the need for members to engage in sporting activities while urging NUJ to provide necessary facilities.
State of nation as contained in the communique said that both the Federal and State Governments should device
more means of addressing the security challenges in the state and the country at large.
It called on Federal Government as a matter of urgenct address the issue of fuel scarcity and the arbitrary increase in pump prices across the country as this will help to reduce the cost of foodstuf and other essential communities, thereby reducing the suffering of citizens.
However the State Governments on its part should rise to their responsibilities by ensuring that independent and major marketers in their respective States stop taking undue advantage of the shortages to hike the prices of the products (PMS, AGO, DPK)
The Congress called on petroleum marketers in Sokoto State and others to emulate the peoples oriented mindset of Alhaji Ibrahim Sarkin Gobir Adiya operator of NNPC Mega Station who despite scarcity continues to maintain statusquo.
“Alhaji Ibrahim Adiya is the only operator in Sokoto State who supervise the sale and dispensing of Petroleum Products at Government controlled price and avoid irregularities at all times”.
That INEC should do everything possible to ensure free, fair and credible exercise in the forthcoming general elections.
NUJ appeal to Nigerians to come out enmass to vote for candidates of their choice and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the process.
It then called on the politicians and their supporters in the country to ensure peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the general elections in the interest of national security and development.
The Community drafting committee members included Ankeli Emmanuel of the correspondent chapel as Chairman,Lawali Salihu Sabon Birni Member,Ibrahim Salihu Isa Member, Hadiza Haliru Muhammed Member and former vice chairman of the council Musa Ubandawaki served as the Secretary.
