Sokoto State Flags Off Landmark Gas Cylinder Distribution Program

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Sokoto State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Government, has launched a major initiative aimed at promoting the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for domestic and industrial purposes.

Leading the Federal Government delegation at the flag-off ceremony in Sokoto was the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ekperikpe Ekpo. The event featured the distribution of gas cylinders to women and youths as part of an empowerment drive.

The program seeks to reduce reliance on firewood and other biomass fuels, curb desertification, and encourage sustainable livelihoods across the state.

Governor Ahmad Aliyu commended President Bola Tinubu for selecting Sokoto as the host state for the initiative, describing the move as “timely, visionary, and highly commendable.” He noted that the adoption of LPG would not only help protect the environment but also stimulate economic growth.

“The economic benefits are immense,” the governor stated. “This program aligns with our priorities and will have a direct positive impact on the lives of our people.”

A key component of the initiative is the empowerment of local communities through the distribution of gas cylinders, particularly to women and young people, thereby promoting cleaner energy alternatives and improving living standards.

In a related development, Governor Aliyu also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for prioritizing oil exploration activities in the Kalmalo area of Illela Local Government, part of the Sokoto Basin, where promising oil deposits have been discovered.

He described the development as a major economic opportunity for the state, with the potential to create jobs and stimulate regional growth.
