The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., GCON, has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to actively promote the accomplishments of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to the public, particularly at the grassroots level, in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the APC National Summit titled “Renewed Hope Agenda: The Journey So Far,” held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Speaker Abbas emphasized the need for all APC stakeholders to compile and effectively communicate the government’s successes to the electorate. He highlighted President Tinubu’s inaugural pledges on May 29, 2023, which included boosting economic growth by six percent annually, rationalizing the foreign exchange market, creating jobs, and tackling insecurity. The Speaker affirmed that these commitments have been central to the APC’s policy direction, leading to “remarkable strides” and significant interventions that have reshaped Nigeria’s economic foundation for sustainable progress.
The Road to 2027: Engaging the Electorate”Mr. President, fellow party members, as we turn our gaze toward 2027, we must acknowledge both the achievements we have made and the challenges that lie ahead,” Speaker Abbas stated. He stressed that now is the opportune moment for every APC stakeholder to intensify engagement at the grassroots, articulate the party’s record clearly, and take their message directly to communities.
He underscored that victory in 2027 would not be achieved merely on paper but by inspiring confidence among the people. This confidence, he explained, can only be fostered by demonstrating how government policies are improving and will continue to enhance the lives of Nigerians.Marketing the Administration’s Successes.
Speaker Abbas urged all APC members, including governors, senators, house members, ministers, commissioners, special advisers, and other political appointees, to collaborate with the President in translating his initiatives into tangible benefits for citizens across every ward. He specifically called for the effective marketing of the Tinubu administration’s successes in recovering fiscal health, driving job creation, expanding infrastructure, and improving security.He noted that the journey thus far has proven that decisive leadership, fiscal discipline, and cohesive action yield results. The Speaker cited the 2025 budget’s focus on austerity and strategic investment, the respect for the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) autonomy in managing inherited financing, and the alignment of legislative instruments with the executive vision as examples of the party’s rigorous and empathetic governance.
“We MUST now marshal these successes into an energetic campaign for 2027, ensuring that our party’s narrative of renewal and stability becomes the clarion call at every town hall and market square,” he asserted.
Deepening Outreach and Strengthening BondsSpeaker Abbas emphasized that the current moment demands both realism and ambition. He cautioned against complacency and urged party faithful to deepen their outreach, sharpen their messaging, and forge an unbreakable bond between the APC and the people it serves.”By selling our record relentlessly and listening attentively, we will carry the Renewed Hope Agenda forward into the next electoral cycle. I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that come 2027, Mr. President and our Party will secure a resounding mandate that confirms our capacity to deliver on the promise of a prosperous Nigeria,” he confidently stated.
Growing Momentum and Legislative PartnershipThe Speaker highlighted the recent influx of high-profile figures and 25 federal lawmakers from Kano, Osun, Kebbi, Delta, and Edo into the APC, with reports of further defections from PDP and Labour Party governors on the horizon. These movements, he said, underscore the APC’s growing momentum, positioning it as the party to beat in 2027.
Speaker Abbas described the 10th National Assembly as “undoubtedly the most fortunate since the return to democracy in 1999.” He attributed this to the significant number of former legislators now serving in the Executive, including the President, and President Tinubu’s clear recognition of the National Assembly’s vital role in grassroots development. He noted that President Tinubu has worked tirelessly to strengthen the National Assembly’s ability to respond to constituents’ needs by increasing budgetary allocations for constituency projects. This “deliberate partnership between the Presidency and Parliament,” he concluded, has empowered Senators and Members to deliver tangible improvements in health, education, and infrastructure.
